And here are the assembled buildings with lights. We still need to add the trim, some domes and spires, billboards, a backdrop etc. but the basic structures are up.

Each building in the city functions as a lantern. Here is Shawn wiring the lights.

Our current stop motion project is a self-directed short. The working title is "I Wonder" (subject to change,) and it will be commercial length (about 45 seconds). There are two sets, a cityscape and a 'natural' environment. Here are some stills of the city construction process.

To illustrate the director's idea to make a film within a film he wanted an image of himself with an old style movie camera. Here is what we came up with.
To get the vintage feeling of a crank camera we chose a combination of paper with drawn shading in pastel grays and sepia. The composition mimics Vertov's iconic "Man With a Movie Camera" poster.

In "The Sheik and I" the director stages a film within a film. We made a stop motion to illustrate the action, which is repeated later in the film with live actors.

Another "Sheik and I" animation depicting the director getting high (his idea). Throughout the film the director appears in front of a bookcase, which we used as a design element to situate his caricature in the film environment.

skype call

Here are stills of two skype calls that Shawn and I animated for the feature documentary "The Sheik and I". All of the animations that we designed for this project are done in paper collage (with some cardboard thrown into the mix). We had about 30 different scenes to depict in total!
